Client Care & Safety

The Women's Treatment Center is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our patients, employees and visitors.  We have implemented a series of policies and procedures which meet local, state, federal and accrediting body regulations and standards.  Under the guidance of multidisciplinary teams, the effectiveness of our programs are continually reviewed and measured, with the goal of continuous performance improvement.

Understanding Health Information Privacy

The  U.S. Department of Health & Human Services issued the Privacy Rule to implement the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

HIPAA provides federal protections for personal health information held by covered entities and gives patients an array of rights with respect to that information. At the same time, the Privacy Rule is balanced so that it permits the disclosure of personal health information needed for patient care and other important purposes.

Your Health Information Is Protected By Federal Law

Most of us believe that our medical and other health information is private and should be protected, and we want to know who has this information.

The Privacy Rule, a Federal law, gives you rights over your health information and sets rules and limits on who can look at and receive your health information. The Privacy Rule applies to all forms of individuals' protected health information, whether electronic, written, or oral.

The Security Rule, a Federal law that protects health information in electronic form, requires entities covered by HIPAA to ensure that electronic protected health information is secure.  The Security Rule specifies a series of administrative, physical, and technical safeguards for covered entities to use to assure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information.

How does TWTC comply with these rules?

TWTC is committed to ensuring full compliance with HIPAA privacy and security laws.  All TWTC employees receive training on how health information may and may not be used and shared, as well as the appropriate and reasonable steps to keep patients’ health information secure at all times.
